That Old Black Magic
By Richard Manning
Directed by Brendan Maher

DID YOU NOTICE?
This is broadly the same plot as the Blake's 7 episode 'Duel' - which is itself nearly identical to an original Star Trek story. Even Galactica 1980 has done it.

Right after John Crichton refers to Rygel as Toto, there's a visual gag to match: the next shot is a pan over Liko's body on the floor and his reddish shoes are turned to resemble points - a la the Wicked Witch of the West.

It's not made clear how Crichton manages to evade Crais after each of the first two fights. We just rejoin him having made his escape.

The kindly wizard Haloth turning into the black-suited Maldis is similar to the Portreeve turning into the Master in the Doctor Who story Castrovalva - and also to the Black and White Guardians of that show's 'Key to Time' season.

John Crichton points out the flaw in Crais' logic that we've all wondered about: he gets Crais to admit that Crichton's ship was no match for his brother's Prowler. Since we know Crais's equipment was good enough to show him the inside of Crichton's ship, you have to ask why he couldn't just rewind a minute and see the accident for what it was.
