Characters

One of the things that makes Hitchhiker's so rewarding - and so funny - is the plethora of minor, throwaway characters.

It is hard not to love creations like Oolon Colluphid (writer of the controversial best sellers Where God Went Wrong, Some More of God's Greatest Mistakes and Who is this God Person Anyway?) as much as the main characters.

Occasionally, these minor characters got Douglas Adams in to trouble. Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings, the worst poet ever, was called something else in the first broadcast. The name was changed for legal reasons - Douglas had used the name of a friend from school, who took offense!

In a recent radio programme 'Naming the Universe' Douglas discussed where he borrowed some of the names that appear in his books.
