The Computer Game

Douglas' interest in technology led to the first of his computer games, based around the Hitchhiker's guide.

It was co-designed with Steve Meretzky, and came packaged with some fluff, JooJanta peril sensitive sunglasses, and a miniature battle fleet. It was famously impossible to complete, requiring some really deep thought.

It was released in 1984, and for its time it was cutting edge. Although just a text based adventure, it was one of the first games that used humour, and recognised more than rudimentary typed commands. It was the best selling computer game in the USA, and won awards.

It is available to play on Douglas Adams' website (you'll need a Java enabled browser)
