On Stage

Hitchhiker's has been brought to the stage several times.

The first production took place at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in May 1979, and was overseen by Ken Campbell. It was amazingly popular, partly due to the audience being seated on an enormous hovercraft.

A second production toured Wales about a year later. It was such a resounding success, the production were offered a season at the Old Vic.

Unfortunately, by this time Ken Campbell was staging a more lavish version of his original production. The show featured lasers, revolving stages, a theater remodeled to look like a spaceport, and was a resounding failure.

It did, however, advertise by throwing a huge inflatible whale off Tower Bridge, which made the police very, very cross.
