Inspired by the works of his Academy Award-winning father, the Hollywood-born Ed Begley Jr. decided to become an actor himself, making his debut at age 17 in an episode of My Three Sons. He first attracted widespread audience attention in the 1980s with his portrayal of the obsequious but socially awkward Dr. Victor Ehrlich on the long-running hit television series, St. Elsewhere. Begley Jr. received six Emmy Award nominations for his role on the show.

Since then, he has seamlessly taken on both feature and television projects, such as Batman Forever, Renaissance Man, The Accidental Tourist. She-Devil and This is Spinal Tap, among several other films.

During the past few seasons, Begley, Jr. has had continuing roles on such series as HBO's Emmy Award-winning Six Feet Under, portraying Hiram Gunderson; the popular 7th Heaven, as Dr. Hank Hastings; and Providence, playing Chuck Chance. He also has guest-starred on The West Wing, The Practice and The Drew Carey Show.
