Buffy News    15 May 2003
Channel Five buys Angel

Channel Five buys Angel

Angel, conspicuously absent from terrestrial TV for what seems like an eternity, will return in June - on Channel 5.

Originally bought by Channel 4 in the hope of a ratings success to match Buffy on BBC2, Angel quickly became something of a PR nightmare for the network.

Much darker than Buffy, the show was initially butchered by the censors in order to make it screenable in an early evening time slot. Even then, scenes of torture that remained in Into The Light drew criticism from TV watchdogs. Angel was eventually banished to a graveyard slot until the end of its second season.

Now Channel Five have bought the terrestrial rights to seasons three and four and are giving the cult favourite a decent 8pm Monday night slot, starting on 2nd June, 2003.

Rest assured that the Cult site will be updating it's episode guide to coincide with the screenings, with it's usual mix of of trivia, quizzes and more.
