American Wedding, the third instalment of Alyson Hannigan's hugely popular American Pie film franchise, has topped the U.S. box office this weekend.
The film has taken over $34 million since knocking Spy Kids 3 off the top spot on Friday - that's over a quarter of all American cinema ticket sales, apparently.
Alyson Hannigan, who plays former band camp geek and experimental flautist Michelle in the film, is delighted with the way the character has developed:
"She's grown out of her dorkiness and come into her own," Alyson told the Ventura County Star newspaper. "She always had such a true sense of herself and so she's okay with who she is. She likes what she likes, and she wants what she wants. She's herself and it doesn't matter how others perceive her. I just love her."
Alyson's onscreen nuptuals in American Wedding may just be acting, but she'll be doing it for real soon - with Angel star Alexis Denisof. She doesn't expect the ceremony to be a showbiz extravaganza, however:
"No, we're not a tabloidy couple. We're not J.Lo and Ben. In fact, maybe they'll marry the same weekend and that should take the heat off us. I don't imagine anyone will care about our marriage."
