There's a new face and a definite shift of emphasis for the fifth season of Angel. Warning! There are spoilers ahead.

Variety magazine reports that Sarah Thompson will join the cast as a new recurring character.

Thompson will appear in at least six episodes as Eve, Angel's new assistant at Wolfram and Hart.

The actress has previously appeared in Touched by an Angel, The Sopranos, and the film Cruel Intentions 2.

Executive producer Jeffrey Bell told Variety that Eve, "will be an anomaly at Wolfram and Hart in that she seems like a normal and well-adjusted young lady."

"She seems too normal," Bell added, saying that she "may or may not be a love interest for Angel. The goal is to have her be a consistent force in our characters' lives."

The casting news confirms reports that there are many changes afoot for the Vamp in Hollywood drama.

"Visually the show's going to look very different than it has before," Bell said. "And we're trying to tell stories that are much more stand-alone and yet still resonate in the same way."
