Save Angel
Save Angel

Details of the fan efforts to save the show.

Angel fans have started organising campaigns to save their favourite show from cancellation.

Several online petitions were begun within hours of the cancellation announcement, and have so far collected thousands of signatures. Since then, sites such as the Save Angel Campaign and Support Angel have sprung up to organise action like letter-writing campaigns. A fund to pay for an advert in support of Angel in industry mag Variety is also underway.

Fan campaigns are a common feature of the media landscape these days, but they can still work. Shows such as Roswell and Farscape have benefited from strong, organised campaigns, winning the shows a second and in Roswell's case, even a third chance.

One of the targets of the campaigns is US Network UPN, after rumours that Angel might make a new home there. Joss Whedon told the TV Guide Online site, "We've talked about the possibility, but it's a long shot." Fingers crossed, then.
