Scooby scoops US
Scooby scoops US

Scooby sequel has a great opening weekend.

It's been a good start for Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and featuring Seth Green.

The sequel beat off some serious competition to scoop the number one slot this opening weekend. It's take of $30.7 million left the Tom Hanks remake of The Ladykillers trailing with $13 million.

To you and me this may just seem like silly money, but a great opening weekend weighs heavily with moguls when they're planning a follow-up film.

E!online (who are just better than us at maths, frankly) point out that although it's still a significant fall on the original's $54.2 million opening weekend, Scooby 2 has had the fifth best March opening ever.

Could this mean the Gellar's just graduated from a long-running TV to a long-running film franchise?
