Alyson's showstopper
Alyson's showstopper

Alyson Hannigan's show brings the house down.

She may be used to buildings collapsing around her - after all, Sunnydale was swallowed up by the Hellmouth last year - but Alyson Hannigan didn't expect her theatre to fall apart on Saturday.

Eleven people were injured when a chandelier broke free during a performance of her hit play, When Harry Met Sally, at the Theatre Royal in Haymarket.

The fixture was prevented from landing on the audience by safety cables, but took sections of the ceiling with it as it came loose, showering the crowd with chunks of plaster. Thankfully, nobody was seriously hurt.

Co-star Luke Perry, no stranger to heroics after appearing in the original Buffy feature film, leapt into the crowd to help evacuate the theatre and tend the injured.

Tonight and Tuesday's performances have been cancelled to allow repair work to be carried out.
