Angel memories
Angel memories

Fan memories of Angel's five years helping the helpless.

To mark the show's end, we asked you to tell your favourite Angel memories. From your hundreds of responses, we've picked out our favourites - and here they are.

Kirsty
It has to be I Will Remember You, seeing the one thing that all fans have been wanting to happen! I only hope that one day they might film it actually happening, because surely we deserve that!

Celine Brent
Whenever I feel horrible or whenever I've had a fight with mum and dad, I go up to my room and play an Angel DVD. It just comforts me. Both Angel and Buffy make you feel as if it's not all that cool to be cool, that in fact being a dork is cooler than being cool. They make you feel comfortable with yourself.

Beckie
My favourite episode of Angel would either have to be when Angel was turned into a puppet, which made me laugh out loud the whole way through, or when he finally became human for a day and spent it with Buffy, the love of his life!

These two episode show just how huge the range of emotions that Angel could make was: I was crying with laughter in Smile Time, and sobbing my heart out in I Will Remember You.

Elle
Nothing will be able to replace the sarcasm fights between Angel and Spike, or how gorgeous Doyle and Gunn were.

Lucy
I loved the puppet episode! The Angel puppet was so cute and funny.

And I miss Cordy. Thanks to everyone who worked on Angel for all your hard work.

John Harley
I will always miss the cast, and the love that they had for one another.

I thought the Host got a raw deal, though. He looked like a coward in Not Fade Away.

Sarah Dicken
Me and my friend Aleks M had our whole lives planned out to match Buffy and Angel.

Holly Tinsley
Angel has been such a big part of my life. I've been there since day one. When Cordelia left in the 100th episode, I cried my eyes out. It was if one of my family had passed away!

Stephanie
My favourite memories is when Angel and Connor first meet. Good luck to all the cast members on the show and thanks for being there. Angel might not sing well but he sure could kick some ass!

Lucy Pennington
One thing that will always stay in my mind was the moment Fred and Wesley got it together. It was so touching and I was so relieved for Wesley. For me one of the saddest moments was Fred's death, especially the line, "Why couldn't I stay." I cried non stop.

Stuart
When Wesley impersonated Angel it was hilarious. I cried with laughter when Harmony put gum in a twelfth century book.

Alfredo Hurtado
I won't forget episode 100 of Angel. It was perfect, and to see Cordy was amazing. I cried at the end of that episode.

Charlie
It was the best show in history. My best memory was when Angel sings Mandy. He has got the worst voice ever. Angel will live on in my heart.

Kirsty Parker
I will never forget the first series with Doyle. The episode where he died was so sad.

Tom Rose
My favourite episode of Angel is when Angel goes a bit dark and sets fire to Darla and Dru.

Catherine Davies
I loved Smile Time - that was so cool! Angel was such a cute puppet.

Spike is fit and I love him to bits.

Jen
Thank you for giving us one more year, so we didn't lose Buffy and Angel in the same year. It was a fantastic finale.

Sinner26000
Cracking stuff... it's a shame to see the end of Joss Whedon's brilliant creation. Angel was full of great moments - adventurous, scary and strangely humorous.

Rich Oliver
My favourite memory has to be in the very opening episode. It's a suitably dramatic moment and the hero is stepping in to save the day. He leaps into his car... and it's the wrong one. Excellent.

That's the thing with Joss' shows, you get everything: action, comedy, horror. Priceless.

Chelsea Lynn Bennington
I loved the episode when Angel became a puppet. He was so cute! My favourite part was when puppet Angel was beating up Spike. It was so funny!

Nik
The replaying of Doyle's final message:

"Is that it? Am I done?"

Cue 10 mins of straight bawling! And my dad laughing at me.

Amy
Angel was a hell of a lot more funny than Buffy because it came up with the most original ideas and always had the best twists, like when Doyle sacrificed himself, when Cordy turned out to be evil, and who can forgot Connor, child of two vampires?

It was brilliant, funny, serious and had the two most gorgeous vampires on the planet.

AerisGhost
The return of Darla and Dru was probably the greatest moment in Angel history. I mean, those two characters are just so... awesome.

Lianne Cooper
I hated that Doyle died because I liked the guy. And when Wesley first turned up it was hilarious... "I'm a rogue demon hunter," "What's a rouge demon?"

Amelia John
Sexy, sexy, sexy!

Sapphire Loveday
I loved the episode where Angel was made a puppet - it was hilarious!

And I loved the way Angel and Spike were always arguing.

I'm quite annoyed at the way Joss ended Angel - I mean do they win or die?

But thank you everyone who made Angel possible - I miss it already.

Samantha Whittingham
One moment that can never be forgotten is the scene with Spike giving a running commentary on Angel saving a woman. "Off! To the Angel-mobile!"

Sean
My favourite memories of Angel would be the following: The end of the episode She where David Boreanaz and Alexis Denisof do their wonderful funky dance. Also the Faith episodes of season one were amazing. Eliza Dushku was really scary in some of those scenes.

Kristen
I'm a big Faith fan, so when Wes helped Faith break out of gaol I was a happy chappy. It was great to see Faith all reformed.

Sarah Donnelly
I just love Angel to bits ever since I saw him on Buffy. The last season was so sad and funny, with Fred and Wes dying, and when Angel turned into a puppet. Angel will always live on, no matter what anyone says.

Charli Dickenson
My favourite point has to be in season one of Angel when Cordelia holds a housewarming party in her new apartment. She asks Angel to dance and so he visualises himself dancing, making a complete prat of himself.

He's clapping and grinning and looking so cheesy and totally cute in his geekiness. I was on the floor in hysterics!

Deb Williams
Goodbye old friend, I'll miss you!

I've enjoyed five seasons worth of amazing writing, astonishing stories and brilliant acting and season five was the icing on the cake. I'm so sad to see this show end but what a way to go!

They helped the helpless and went out fighting. Redemption indeed.

Abbey
I love Angel. Bless Joss. And James - aawww, the prettiness.

Stephen Kilroy
Angel was the most addictive activity in my week. It for me is superior to Buffy. Its short lived existence is a blow. If fans are not rewarded with several feature-length films, there will be hell to pay.

Brittany
I've grown up with Buffy and Angel, they were like my second family.

Chris Pyne
When Angel said, "Let's get to work," in Not Fade Away it was really sad and also cool and a good way to end it.

Sonia
What can I say about such a great show? Before, TV was only light distraction.

Dark, funny and always smart, Angel and the Buffyverse in general has never been afraid to take new directions and have never dumbed down their creative vision.

Congratulations to the possibly super-human genius that is Joss Whedon and to the entire cast - who excelled themselves every episode - and everyone else involved in the show.

Liam Walters
The best show in the world. Funny, dark, small, big.

Laura Rankin
When I first saw Lorne a.k.a Andy Hallett I fell in love with him totally from the first time. Even with his green make up he still makes me lose my breath! He has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard.

Jess McMahon
As soon as I started watching Angel I was hooked. It's been a fantastic five years with great writing, directing and, of course, brilliant acting.

My favourite character has always been Wesley. His good looks, intelligence and naughty bad side are elements you can't resist! I was sad to see him die but Alexis Denisof acted it out brilliantly.

Sarah Cole
I have so many Angel memories I don't know what to start with, but my first one will be Glenn Quinn (Doyle). He was a great actor and Doyle was a brilliant character.

Also I loved Judgement, as it is the first time we hear Mandy sung by the gorgeous David Boreanaz!

I will always love Angel as it is a show that just grew and grew. Thank you Joss Whedon.

Martha Haas
My best Angel memory is I Will Remember You. It was so romantic how Angel and Buffy just got right together and everything was okay. It is okay that it didn't work out because all Angel and Buffy fans know that once something is looking good, something goes wrong.

Kate Reilly
When he was naked!

Dave W
The show moved from being simply a great spin-off from Buffy to becoming an unmissable show in its own right. The characters evolved constantly over the five years, particularly Wesley, who started out as the comic relief of the show and became dark, interesting and dangerous as his moral lines got blurred.

Also, what show could have a character who was bright green and cheerful and turn him into a fan favourite. Only the power of Joss Whedon could do this.

Gemma Court
I miss Wesley!

Amy Chadwick
Joss Whedon is God! Not only did he bring a great seven years of Buffy but he also brought us five spectacular years of Angel! Those five years have made us laugh, they've made us cry and they've made us sing. That to me is all you need for entertainment!

Rebecca Alora Walker
I remember crying during I Will Remember You and Hole in The World. I've been with this show from the beginning and I will miss it so much. There's this empty space inside of me where Angel used to be and I don't think another show could ever take its place.

Gary Christie
The thing that I am going to miss most about Angel is the rivalry that Angel and Spike had in series five.

Staker Boi
Of course it's sad to see Angel finishing, but I'm just happy that they managed to produce so many great episodes in the five years it was on air.

One moment I'll always remember is watching Lullaby for the first time. As I was completely unspoilt beforehand, watching Darla stake herself to protect her unborn baby totally took me by surprise. So much so that for about 10 minutes afterwards I was sobbing like a baby myself.

Squall
I just want to say that Angel was and still is the best show. I could watch reruns over and over and not get tired. It was a great ending by Joss because not only does it open our minds, but it still leaves a small chance for a season six.

Emma Byrne
I loved every episode of Angel. Best bits are seeing David Boreanaz in emotional scenes because he's just so damn fine... and also intimate scenes. Wink, wink!

Hadfield
Such a finale to a fantastic show that was in every way better than Buffy. The ending was that of a hero - fighting until the end, plus you don't know how it ended. Maybe Angel and the gang survived, maybe not.

Giles Flood-Murphy
Angel was one of the most consistently inventive and exciting series on TV in recent history. It never took the easy route, its final episode being a perfect example of this... no cosy feel-good ending, just the continued fight with no certain end in sight.

Nick
Thank you Angel, for bringing Fred to television! She was the best thing that ever happened - and her and Wesley were SO adorable! Buffy and Angel are two truly effulgent shows!

Staker
Please Joss write something else soon. There is nothing to watch on TV now. it just sits silently in the corner waiting for some more Joss Whedon shows.

David E. Griffiths
I admit that Jasmine scared the hell out of me. The way she spoke and laughed would make anyone's nightmare come true.

Maggie Walters
From start to finish, Angel has been an exciting adventure and was the only show to have us glued to the television every week.

The story lines have been heart-warming, funny, emotional, and dare I say, even surpassed Buffy the Vampire Slayer at times.

The memories that will stay with us are Angel on a motorbike sporting a fetching pink helmet, Cordelia dribbling on Angel's shoulder during a visit to the ballet, and Wesley's talent for dancing at Cordelia's party.

We will now have to take solace in watching the series over and over again the on box sets, with trips to the local karaoke bars in between.

Somehow, I think we will see them helping the helpless again soon...

Mimi
I absolutely loved season five. They went out with a real bang - all fists and fangs, and Wes's death was just tragic.

Phil Colvin
The best things were: making David Boreanaz cool, making Alexis Denisof cool, making Andy Hallett full stop and making Eliza Dushku even more amazingly cool than the coolness she already was.

Mal
The thing I always loved about watching Angel was the way it made you say "Noooooo, no way". The plot twists were fantastic - like when Lilah came back from the dead, Cordy turned bad, and Lindsey returned. This continued right to the end with Lorne going all hitman on us.

Jennifer Blue
Spike mentioning in the penultimate episode that he and Angel had never been intimate "except that one time" . The Buffyverse has always championed the love that, until recently, dared not speak its name on fantasy serial television. Thanks to all the writers for giving lesbian, gay and bi people some seriously hot validation and a barrel of tears and laughs along the way.

Hillary
I loved how in the series finale, Spike finally read his poem for Cecily, and it was loved! It took him 114 years to do it, but hey, art takes time! Good job big bloody boy!

Charisma
The first time seeing Jasmine's real face. Terrifying.

Si Wharton
Angel 1727-2004 RIP.

Bows head for a moment's silence.

In time another program may replace Angel in our minds, but never in our hearts. Angel is dead, long live Angel.
