Ulysses 31 on DVD

Volume one of the space odyssey comes out this month.

Fans of mystifying, ultra-long French-Japanese animated adventures based on Homer are in for a treat next week, with the release of cult cartoon Ulysses 31 on DVD.

The series, which was broadcast on the BBC back in the mid-80s, transposes the tale of Greek hero Ulysses to the spaceways of the 31st century.

Produced by the same people responsible for equally extended saga The Mysterious Cities of Gold, Ulysses 31 followed Ulysses' quest across the universe in search of the Kingdom of Hades.

He was helped in his travels by Shyrka, the guidance computer of the spaceship Odyssey, Japanese anime-style siblings Yumi and Numinor, and Nono the annoying robot.

Ulysses 31 volume one is out from Contender Entertainment on 24th May.
