Adam Adamant Lives!

The sword-wielding, Edwardian sleuth comes to BBC Four.

As part of its Summer in the Sixties season, BBC Four is to screen an episode of cult series Adam Adamant Lives!: The League of Uncharitable Ladies.

For the uninitiated, Adam Adamant Lives! tells the story of an Edwardian adventurer who wakes up in the swinging Sixties, having been frozen in a block of ice by his nemesis, The Face.

In The League of Uncharitable Ladies Adam Adamant investigates a number of murders seemingly connected to the Gentlewomen's Charity League. Could their work be far from charitable?

The episode is of note because it is one of a number directed by Ridley Scott, of Hannibal, Gladiator and Alien fame.

More importantly it features fabulous killer old ladies, a charming seductresses and wonderful location footage showing old London town how it used to be, in the good old days, when we were just a twinkle in our mothers' eyes.

Adam Adamant Lives!: The League of Uncharitable Ladies will be screened on Saturday 26th June at 9.55pm.

The episode was originally broadcast on 22nd September 1966.
