Cruise loves Alias

Creator of Alias reveals how he got the Mission Impossible 3 gig.

The Associated Press reports that JJ Abrams has his work on Alias to thank for getting the job of directing Mission Impossible.

Speaking at a press launch for the Alia season three DVD, Abrams said that he had a meeting with Tom Cruise about the project, but didn't think he had much of chance. On the off chance, he gave Cruise the Alias season one and two DVDs.

A few days later, Abrams got the call back telling him Cruise had watched every episode, that he loved the show, and that he wanted Abrams to direct Mission Impossible 3.

"Alias has been in some ways preparation for what that will be," Abrams said of his new job. "If it hadn't been for the DVDs, I definitely wouldn't have the job."

In an upcoming interview with Access Hollywood, Cruise said "I'm a big fan of his. You look at what he's accomplished with that show, the characters and the story. He's a really talented guy."
