Mr Benn returns

It's back to 52 Festive Road for a new costumed adventure.

Animated children's series Mr Benn is coming back to TV in a new adventure to be broadcast on New Year's Day.

In the new episode Mr Benn once again enters his local fancy dress shop and ends up transported back in time.

Because it's a spoiler, we'll only tell you what costume he picks at the end of the news story*, so if you don't want to know, stop reading now.

It is based on a book by Mr Benn's creator David McKee.

"It's hard to believe that the first Mr Benn films were broadcast in 1970," he said. "I still get a lot of letters from fans asking when I'm going to write a new story."

Ray Brooks also returns to provide the narration.

Mr Benn will be screened on Nick Jr at 8pm on New Year's Day.

*He tries on a Gladiator costume and finds himself in ancient Rome.
