Hugo Awards

Nominations for top science fiction accolades open.

Interaction, the body behind the World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon), have announced the opening of the 2005 Hugo Awards nominations.

Named after Hugo Gernsback, publisher of the first ever science fiction magazine Amazing Stories, the Hugos are chosen by the World Science Fiction Society, a fan organisation including members of Interaction and Worldcon attendees.

Awards categories include Best Novel, Short Story, Dramatic Presentation (that's film or TV to you and me), Professional Editor and Professional Artist.

The shortlisted nominees will be announced at Easter, and the awards will be presented at the 63rd Worldcon, which takes place between 4-8 August in Glasgow this year.
