Meet the Dupes

Max The Royal Four's twins come to Roswell looking for Max. He's got to lead an alien conference in New York. Yo.

Written by Tony Graphia
Directed by James Contner

This episode is either great entertainment or really silly. When the whole idea of four more aliens was revealed a few weeks ago, it was an intriguing concept. When we get to meet them, it's a different matter. Kickin'.

Once you've got over the hoot of seeing Max, Isabel, Tess and Michael dressed "rough", you've got an awful lot to swallow. Why have we never met these guys before? How have they been brought up? Why are the Skins going after our four, and not this lot? Why do they all look so dumb? I'm sure a lot of this gets resolved over the course of the series, but for now, there's a lot to boggle at. Five-o.

The "New Yawk" makeovers of the cast are startling. Michael looks even dafter with a mullet, punk Isabel is a revelation, and our brief glimpses of non clean-cut Max are hysterical. What's even harder to believe is that a whole alien conference took anyone dressed like that seriously. Oh yeah, and "street" Tess is just as wet as normal Tess. Total Cornball.

It's certainly an enterntaining slice of Roswell, with some wonderful scenes - Sheriff Valenti's confrontation with the Dupes is a particular highlight. Plus, we learn that Max and Isabel's father is obsessed with sticking his kids in therapy. Word.

Those Dupes in full:

Max: Zan
Michael : Rath
Isabel: Lonnie (Vilandra)
Tess: Ava

Dupe-speak: Some hip phrases from the New York streets:

"Yo!" - Hello.
"Word." - Very nice indeed.
"Five-o." - I understand and approve.
"This must be his bitch." - That would be his girlfriend.
"What do you say you give me a little somethin' somethin, huh?'" - Young lady, would you like a kiss?
"Epic." - Quite nice.
"What a bunch of scrubs." - What boring people.
"You must be buggin' out." - You're probably feeling a little surprise right now.
"A bunch of peeps from the hood want to hook up." - A delegation from a distant galaxy is being convened.
"What you trippin' about?" - Is there a problem?

This week's love:

Max: Can't forgive Liz.
Liz: Can't get over Max. Appalled by snogging Rath.
Maria: Shocked that a second Michael is in town... and after Liz.
Brody: After Maria in a big, sweet way
Zan: In love with Ava.
Rath: Lonnie's lover, but big and sweet on Liz.
