"There are things in this world that do not belong here..."
My ancestor, Tamara Swift, wrote those words in her journal nearly one hundred and seventy years ago, and I fear that they may be as true today as they were in her era. My name is also Tamara Swift, and I am proud to bear her name, though I must confess I'm more than a little nervous as I wonder what you will all think of me when I tell you what little I know of the truth of the world. Or, at least, of the world behind this one.
I'm an ordinary girl and I say that with more than a little relief. The former Tamara, you see, my ancestor, was the mystical protector of Albion... of England. As foolish as that sounds - and believe me, when I first heard it I thought it just as ridiculous as you lot must - I have reluctantly come to believe it to be true. What frightens me, however, is not that bit of truth, but this one: if my great, great, great, great grand-aunt was the mystical protector of Albion... there must be something that it needs protecting from.
Enough of the morbid, for the moment. A little about me. (Not that I'm feeling at all Bridget Jones - yes, I'm a singleton, but not looking, thanks.) But just by way of introduction... I live in London. I'm 26 years old and have only recently finished university. A bit of a late bloomer, it's true. My studies have focused on media and communications and so when this guy started chatting me up at the pub one night and I found out he worked for the Beeb... well, romance didn't blossom, but friendship has.
His name's Rob, one of the guys who runs the BBC Cult site. Never really been into all of that creepy stuff... at least not until I started researching my family history. So... one night after a few bottles of Delirium Tremens, that mad Belgian fruit beer that comes in the special glasses with the pink elephants on them? Well, I got to telling Rob about my research... about my family. I should've known that given the sort of thing he goes in for, he would've jumped right on it... and maybe I did know. Maybe I just thought it was time to share what I've learned... to warn you all.
For the next five weeks, you'll get a chance to see a dramatisation of the real life story of my ancestor, the first Tamara Swift, and her brother William, my great, great, great, great grandfather. Anyway, that's about it really. I'll be here every day at about mid-day to answer any questions you have about the story, or my family and I'm going to keep up my research into my family history while I've got the time. There's still so much I don't know. So if you fancy helping me dig into the past, then let me know. And remember, the truth isn't out there...
It's in here.
