About the BBC Archive
The Likely Lads

James Bolam, Wendy Richards, Wanda Ventham and Rodney BewesTo kick off the treasure hunt, a long-lost episode of hit 1960s comedy The Likely Lads is being shown for the first time in 35 years on May 30 on BBC TWO. It was recently turned up by Kaleidoscope, a team of keen amateur collectors who have kindly donated it back to the BBC archive.

Star Rodney Bewes said: "I am chuffed to bits that this has turned up and will be shown again. It will be a bit of nostalgia for some and a new experience for a whole new generation. I wish we could find some of the other programmes that are lost, but this is a start."

Called The Last of the Big Spenders, the recovered episode of The Likely Lads was first broadcast on 7th July 1965 and features a youthful Wendy Richards as a guest actress alongside James Bolam and Rodney Bewes as Terry and Bob, lads on the make. Actress Wanda Ventham also co-stars. Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais wrote the sitcom, which ran for three series from 1964 to 1966 and inspired Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads? in the 1970s.
