Lord Fraser

NO/NO - Lord Fraser of Carmyllie QC

Lord Fraser is another key player in the NO/NO campaign. . He holds the position of Director in the group, Think Twice.

His declared role is to act as a conduit for business involvement in - and financial support for - the campaign against devolution.

A reformer with a sense of humour and mischief, he worked closely with the former Scottish Secretary, Ian Lang, in finalising the Tories' scheme - known as Taking Stock - to modernise the handling of Scottish business in the Commons.

He was born in 1945 and was educated at Cambridge and Edinburgh University, where he was one of the Scottish Tory 'Young Turks' who formed the Thistle Group. It included the likes of Malcolm Rifkind and Michael Ancram.

He was an MP for Angus South 1979-83 and Angus East 1983-87. He was Solicitor General for Scotland 1982-89.

He lost his seat in 1987 and was raised to the peerage in 1989. He then spent some time as a Scottish Office minister and as minister in the Trade and Industry Department.
