Andy Myles

Chief Executive, Scottish Liberal Democrats.

Andy Myles is a hard-working and talanted party official who has played a key role, largely behind the scenes, in sustaining the consensus between the Liberal Democrats and Labour over devolution.

Initially scathing over Labour's plans for a referendum - particularly the second question on tax - he is now dedicating all his efforts to help secure a Double Yes vote.

Born in 1957 in Edinburgh and educated at Merchiston Castle School and Dundee University. He is a former General Services Manager (Mental Illness) at Tayside Mental Health Unit and from 1976-79 was Director and Designer of the Edinburgh International Fringe Productions. He joined the Liberal Party in 1980 and was a founder member of the new Scottish Liberal Democrats in 1980. He contested Edinburgh Central in 1987 and 1992 but was unsuccessful. In 1988 he became a member of the Scottish LibDem Executive suceeding to the Chief Executiveship in 1992. At the Constitutional Convention Myles was the LibDems principal negotiator.
