City & County of Swansea

Electorate: 177,147
Area (Hectares): 37,791

This region includes the city of Swansea, and the whole Gower peninsula. Swansea's city centre has recently undergone extensive redevelopment, and a new marina has been built in the South Dock. Coal mining, anthracite mining and metal working used to take place in this area. The decline of heavy industry hit the region hard, but manufacturing industry has diversified. The region is one of great contrasts, including areas of outstanding natural beauty, middle class towns such as Mumbles, and the Swansea and Lliw Valleys with their industrial heritage.

All three parliamentary constituencies within this region are safe Labour seats. The council is also Labour controlled, they hold 56 of the 73 seats.
