Episode Guide
Bargaining Part 1

Trivia

Two hours of fun: The episode was originally shown as a feature-length special in America, to celebrate Buffy's relaunch on the UPN network. It's because the episode has been edited into two parts that we might see some mysterious cuts in this version.

Buffybot phone home: The Buffybot has a homing device which finds Willow when it's damaged. This ultimately leads the demon bike gang to the grave.

Gobbledygook-a-rama: Responding to the Buffybot's comment about "That'll put marzipan in your pie-plate bingo", Spike asks "Why the Dada-ism?" referring to the German absurdist art movement of the 1920s. Willow replies that her attempts to add in puns made it come up with "word salad" which is an actual term used in abnormal psychiatry. It's speech that is so disorganised that a listener cannot comprehend it.

Fisticuffs, anyone?: Giles and Anya's slap fight is almost as bad as Xander and Harmony's hair-pulling and kicking in Real Me.

Monster madness: Tara gives Giles a little rubber monster as a leaving present and says "Grrr, argh" - clearly a reference to the monster in the Mutant Enemy logo at the end of every episode, which does the same thing.

Starring role: This episode is the first time that Anthony Stewart Head is listed as a guest star in the credits. Alyson Hannigan now appears in the opening sequence in the spot he used to occupy.

And she looks so innocent: If you thought the scene where Willow kills the deer was distressing, be grateful that you didn't see the whole thing. Originally the scene was a lot more gory, so had to be cut in order to be suitable for an early evening time slot. Interestingly enough, the music playing during this scene is listed in the production paperwork as "Willow Stabs Bambi"

Auction of death: Anya buys the Urn of Osiris on eBay. Osiris was the Egyptian god of the dead, and eBay is an online auction house where you can buy anything from empty drinks cans to houses and cars.

Think of a number: The numbers seen on some costumes (11 for Willow, 13 for Xander and 07 for Dawn) were thought by fans to be some kind of cryptic clue from Joss. In fact, it was just coincidence. The costume designer happened to buy fashionable items that had numbers on and Marti Noxon encouraged her to continue doing so, just for fun.

There were two in the bed: We discover that Willow and Tara have moved into Buffy and Dawn's house and are sharing Joyce's old room. We also discover that Anya and Xander are engaged, but Xander doesnt want to tell the other Scoobies yet.

Miniature airport: Giles flies out of Sunnydale airport, first seen in What's My Line part 2. Scenes were filmed at the airport near the Buffy soundstages, south of Los Angeles. The airport is constant nuisance to the crew when filming exterior scenes, as they have to stop everything between take-offs! To get to London, Giles has to change at LA, showing that Sunnydale airport isn't all that major.

In make-up for ten hours: Line producer Gareth Davies told us that they can need up to 44 make-up artists for an episode like this one. Each actor needs a double so imagine how long it would take to get them all made up! You can see his interview here.
