Stephen: "Unconvincing Drunk"
There are rumours of (whisper it) bad episodes of the The Simpsons. However, there is definitely one bad episode of Buffy.
Buffy faces the demon drink with an American puritanism rarely found anywhere else in the series. Black Frost beer turns students into Neanderthals. If you miss that message, turn off your TV before watching it. Its text with no 'sub', which is shocking as Buffy's main strength is intelligent allegory.
Willow provides the only enjoyable scenes when confronting Parker, but these are intercut with Sarah Michelle Gellar (such an unconvincing drunk she couldn't get served in a dairy) and the woeful Neanderthal students, who really do say "fire, bad".
The writers must have had too much Black Frost themselves.
Kim: "Fratboy Beermonsters"
This wasnt the greatest episode. Usually I enjoy the individual stories for themselves, and get even more excited when the cross-season story arc deepens.
The only thing that kept Beer Bad going was the development of the back story: I couldnt have cared less about the fratboy beermonsters.
I did love Willows top, top Parker moment: it really had me believing that shed been taken in for a minute. But no! Hurrah! and bless her little cotton cleverness socks.
James: "Beer Bad, Bad"
Neanderthals are Boring. The writers haven't learnt that the only reason for watching 1 Million Years BC is Raquel Welsh. There's no sense of real threat - the Neanderthals wander around a bit, and start a small fire in a ludicrously contrived way.
It's depressingly similar to Band Candy, but hugely inferior. All the scenes with Willow are great, though.
