Trivia

Roll up, roll up: Never mind the cuts on BBC2, Buffy gets snipped in America too. "They were small edits," Joss told Dreamwatch magazine. "My favourite one would probably never have made it to air anyway. It was Principal Wood and Giles sharing a joint right before they go into battle, or as I referred to it in the script, a hand-rolled cigarette. That was shot and not aired... We did a version with tiny airport bottles of whiskey, but we did one version with the joint."

Doomed: The scene where Buffy, Willow, Xander and Giles chat about going to the mall is a deliberate homage to the end of season one's The Harvest. Giles even gets the line, "The earth is definitely doomed," similar to "The Earth is doomed" in The Harvest.

Death wish: Emma Caulfield reportedly requested that Anya be killed off as she didn't want to return after season seven or appear in any Buffy films.

Famous last words: Buffy's final line of dialogue is "Spike".

Ear, Ear: In the middle of the battle, Andrew claims to be suffering from swimmer's ear, or otitis externa, which occurs when the ear canal is exposed to water and becomes infected with bacteria. The main symptom is pain with movement of the ear or touching the ear.

Sign of the times: A Welcome to Sunnydale sign gets knocked over for the third time in the show's history, having been hit in both School Hard and Lovers Walk. Each time it's been Spike's fault.

Oh, hell: Giles reveals that there's another hellmouth in Cleveland. It's probably no coincidence that alternate timeline Buffy in The Wish was based there. In Empty Places, Clem suggests to Buffy that she should move somewhere safe - like Cleveland.

Awards: Chosen netted Buffy its final Emmy nomination - in the Special Visual Effects for a Series category. Although it didn't win, at least it was beaten only by Firefly.

Previously on Angel: The amulet and files Angel gives to Buffy come from Wolfram and Hart lawyer Lilah Morgan, in a tie-in to Angel's fourth season final, Home.

Alternate universes: Several alternative Chosen scripts could be found on the internet in the weeks leading up to the finale on the internet. One features Xander sacrificing himself to save Dawn, another sees Anya surviving. Dawn also becomes a Slayer in one too. It's not known how many of these were genuine, fan fakes or red herrings put out by Mutant Enemy to confuse the rumour mongers.

D & D: Some of the gang spend the night before battle playing Dungeons and Dragons, the most famous fantasy roleplay game. Players use dice to control game characters such as elves, hobbits and wizards as they pillage their way though dungeons, often containing dragons, under the watchful eye of an all powerful dungeon master. Here, that's Andrew, in a sweet little red cloak. D & D was created by Gary Gygax and David Arneson in the early 1970s.
