Trivia

The Geek Shall Inherit the Earth.

A small shrine to the nerdiest supervillans on TV. This week:

Jonathan and Andrew show their uber-geekness by settling an argument over a Peter Frampton album by fighting with Star Wars light sabres.

The album they fight over is Frampton Comes Alive, released in 1976. This album was a recording of the San Francisco leg of a multi-million-dollar grossing tour that made Peter Frampton an international superstar and became the biggest selling live album in rock music history.

Jonathan's bone is seen again, after first appearing in the episode Life Serial.

Once more, with anxiety:Buffy asks the guys if there is singing again, in a reference to the musical episode, Once More With Feeling. She looks afraid very afraid.

Pull the other one: Dawn tells Buffy she's sleeping over at Janice's, but Buffy isn't falling for that again. This is a reference to the episode, All The Way, when Dawn and Janice go out on dates with vampires.

Never believe your eyes: Buffy's belief that's she's killed a human echoes earlier eps Ted, where she kills her mother's Robot boyfriend, and Bad Girls where Faith accidently Kills Deputy Mayor Finch.

Make me a girlfriend: The idea of enslaving women to do men's bidding has overtones of the 1985 film Weird Science, written by John Hughes. The film follows the antics of two unpopular teenagers as they try to "create" their ideal woman using a computer. The 1975 film, The Stepford Wives, also features the enforced conformity of women. Turns out the men in the town of Stepford are replacing their real-life "troublesome" wives with more accommodating fake ones.

Going all David Lynch: David Lynch is the acclaimed director of films such as Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Dune, Blue Velvet, and Mullholland Drive. He also created the cult TV show Twin Peaks. He has a very particular style, using unusual ways of portraying time, framing shots and using sound. His films have a surreal quality whilst still being very American.

Bad Taste Buffy: Buffy is showing her age by mentioning New Kids on the Block. They were the ultimate American boy band, a group of five, white, clean-cut teens from Boston, who formed in 1984, had their biggest hits between 1989 and 1992 and split up by 1994.

Bronze Bands: Boh Wah Boo Wah by Red and the Red Hots plays at the Bronze when Anya, Xander and Willow are dancing.

Buffy has left the building:Out Of This World by Bush is the music playing as Buffy stands outside Spike's crypt, trying to decide whether to enter.
