Trivia

RILEY, YOU BIG LUG

A small shrine to the dumbest man on TV. This week:

"Slayer. Comma. The." Riley appears to be the only person in the world who hasn't heard of the Slayer.

He actually gets excited by earthquakes.

His call sign is "Lilac One". This boy even has a thing for pastels.

He tries to explain his love for Buffy by saying, "I can feel my skin humming". Bet the guy writes love sonnets.

Not only does Riley name demons HSTs (Hostile Sub-Terrestrials), we learn that he has a category for their behaviour called "Kill, Crush, Destroy".

"Don't I know you?" Riley fails to recognise Hostile 17. But it must be because of the shirt.

"Paintball." Even Riley realises he's blown his secret identity. He then blurts out that he has a rank and security code.

And can we just have a few moments to pay tribute to the kicked puppy expression he wears throughout this week's episode?

Trivia

The last time we had an earthquake was in Season One's Prophecy Girl, when the Hellmouth opened and the Master killed Buffy.

Xander: This week he's working as a pizza guy.

Percy: Willow tutored the ungrateful jock last season.

"Death, carnage - it's a Buffy party": Buffy has a point. Parties in Buffy usually end in blood (Fear Itself, The Prom, Dead Man's Party, Surprise, etc...)

The CBS logo: It does look a little like the eye-in-the-pyramid sign we see in the episode. Morley Safer is a CBS presenter. The symbol resembles the mysterious design on the back of dollar bills.

"That's my shirt you're about to dust.": When vampires die in Buffy, their clothes go with them. Presumably this means that some form of exothermic reaction takes place - although the weapon used to stake them remains untouched. Magic, eh?

The Word of Valios: How convenient is it that Giles just happens to have it lying around in a trunk?

"We're going back to High School.": We last saw Sunnydale High destroyed along with the snake-demon-mayor in Graduation Day part II. There are numerous references to this episode (including the bits of "mayor meat" that Xander finds"). Willow's comment that "everything seems so small" is a cute in-joke. The burnt school sets are much smaller than the originals.

Just how does Buffy manage to fall more quickly than the Demon?
