Episode Guide
The Puppet Show

Trivia

Buffy Wrecks Oedipus: Buffy, Xander, and Willow's contribution to the talent show is from the Greek tragedy Oedipus Rex. Buffy plays Jocasta, Oedipus' mother and wife, Xander portrays Oedipus and Willow plays the Priest of Zeus - before she runs away.

Willow's stage fright is also explored in the following episode, Nightmares and Season Five's Restless.

No Smoking: Following Principal Flutie's demise as Hyena People snack food, Snyder, a tougher Principal was introduced to the show.

Armin Shimerman, best known for playing the devious but comic Ferengi Quark in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, juggled his schedule to allow him to appear in Buffy too.

Snyder's tough manifesto meant he would not tolerate: "Students loitering on campus after school, horrible murders with hearts being removed. And also smoking." Firm but fair.

Thank You for the Music: Cordelia 'sings' the Whitney Houston hit The Greatest Love Of All during the talent show rehearsals. She's so flat, you'd think she's been ironed. Her singing has improved a little by the time she sings We Are the Champions in the Angel episode Redefinition.

Oops: How come the other performers seem to have disappeared during the climactic fight between the Scoobies and the Demon. Come to think of it, why are the audience so quiet too? Also, Willow is seen typing away at her computer in one scene - even though it doesn't appear to be switched on.

Continuity: Sid reveals to Buffy that he previously worked with a Korean Slayer in the 1930s. Willow confesses she can play the piano, but not in public.

Ad-libbing is Murder: Xander's cry of "Redrum, Redrum," was a ad-lib on the part of Nicholas Brendon. It's taken from Stanley Kubrick's film version of Stephen King's The Shining. As you probably know it's 'murder' spelt backwards.
