Trivia

RILEY, YOU BIG LUG

A small shrine to the dumbest man on TV. This week:

"Face it, white bread. Buffy's got a type, and you're not it," Spike tells our hero. 'White bread' is slang for someone dull, plain and boring. Some mistake, surely?

Riley's getting all hard. We know he's still a big ol' lug underneath, though.

Riley turns up wearing a turtleneck sweater. Now, your girlfriends gonna know youre hiding a fangy hickey. She's the Slayer.

People get sick... Nice comforting words there. Well Done, Riley.

Hey! Your Mum's dying! Lets go to the funfair and get ice-cream! Yay!

Snakey Wakey: The Buffy production team seems to have a thing about snakes and serpent demons - this is at least the fourth one we can think of after Machida in Reptile Boy, Lurconis in Band Candy and the creature the Mayor became in Graduation Day Part 2.

Sobek was an actual Egyptian god, taking the form of a crocodile rather than a snake. According to legend, at the command of Ra, he performed such tasks as catching the four sons of Horus with a net as they emerged from the waters in a lotus bloom.

CAT Scan: Dawn wondered why the machine used to scan Joyces tumour was known as a CAT Scan. Rather than being anything to do with small furry animals, CAT actually stands for Computed Axial Tomography.

Its essentially a complex X-Ray machine that rotates around the patients head as it takes pictures of slices of the brain.

It's a shadow: Joyce has a Low Grade Glioma. This is a tumour of supporting tissue in the brain - called Glia. They're slow growing - so you can have one for many years without symptoms.

Back to the Zoo: After a four year absence, we get to revisit Sunnydale zoo. The reptile house seems terribly deserted though. I guess everyone's still hypnotised by the hyena exhibit...

Spring Fresh: Spike's started sniffing Buffy's sweaters now. That boy's got it bad. He's even stealing her underwear.

Looks Familiar: Kevin Weisman, who play's Glory's minion, Dreg, previously appeared alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar in the 1997 TV movie Beverly Hills Family Robinson.

It's a kind of Magic: According to the Yellow Pages, the address of the Magic Box is 5124 Maple Court, downtown Sunnydale. Its phone number is 803-555-8966. 555 gets used a lot for fictitious phone numbers in films and TV shows as it's not a real code.

the ad also has the shop's catchy slogan: "Your one-stop spot to shop for all your occult needs. Let us make it easy." Doesn't it just roll off the tongue?

Oops!: Even though Glory injures Buffy's right arm during the fight at the zoo, the Slayer puts an ice pack on her left shoulder when she gets to the hospital.
