Episode Guide
Superstar

Review

Kim: "Insta-hero"

When Joss Whedon wrote his original feature film version of Buffy, Im sure he never realised what a huge cult it would become. Superstar feels like the show making fun of its own success.

Take one very minor character, who only the real diehard fans are going to recognise, and promote him to ultimate celebrity for one week only. And make sure this Insta-hero has his merchandising rights sorted - check the collection of trading cards and comics on the coffee table. Even the downside (like, big gnarly demon!) can be easily and cleanly disposed of, and no-one will remember any different. It really is the ultimate American dream. Andy Warhol would have loved Buffy.

Stephen: "Student Prank"

All in all a very enjoyable episode, reminiscent of a student prank 'a friend' used to get up to: Get a large group of mates to go into a pub, find someone you barely know, and harrass them for their autograph all night. The speed at which they take to fame is amazing. Apparently.

Superstar feels like Buffy's fourth season cruising in top gear post-Faith. It's a great idea, immaculately executed, which is full of the usual witty in-jokes.

Good to see Colonal George Havalant take charge of the Initiative. He's The A-Team's Colonal Decker reborn as an Adam-hunter. Killing Franken-Leery next week would be an excellent start.
