Trivia

Trauma Troll: Olaf the troll is played by Abraham Benrubi (full name Abraham Rubin Hercules Benrubi), best known as Jerry Markovic in five seasons of medical drama ER.

Benrubi also played Larry Kubiac in cult TV show Parker Lewis Can't Lose and featured in blockbuster disaster movie Twister, script-doctored by none other than Joss Whedon.

Big Dummy: Spikeoffering his shop window dummy/ersatz Buffy chocolates. Oh dear, he's got it bad.

Smashing: We wouldn't want to own the Bronze. The cost of refitting it and repairing structural damage every few episodes must be exorbitant. Only Buffy's house has the builders in more often.

Fun with Nuns: Although we sadly don't get to see it on camera, Buffy's visit to the convent involves trying on a wimple.

Troll Trivia: Trolls are a Scandinavian mythic thing. In Iceland, they were a race of giants, and in Norse myth a type of goblin. Like vampires, they didn't like sunlight - it turned them to stone. Olaf was turned into a troll after he broke up with Anya centuries ago. She's so the vengeance girl.

Shrimp: Continuing a running joke started in her season four episode Superstar, writer Jane Espenson refers to Anya's preoccupation with shrimp. We also discover that Tara is allergic to them by the way.

Oops!: How come Anya doesn't know if she can drive? In Graduation Day part 2, when trying to persuade Xander to flee Sunnydale, the ex-demon tells him she has a car waiting outside. Presumably she would have been the one driving it?

How do the Scoobies know that Riley was headed for the Central American jungle? He didn't tell any of them last week.

Hammer Time: Remember Olaf's hammer - it plays an important role later in the season.

Rats!: Willow has been attempting to de-rat Amy again, this time using something called hellebore in her spell. It didn't work, "But I think it might have made her really smart," she says. "She keeps giving me these looks like she's planning something. Rubbing her paws together."

Music: Blur's There's No Other Way plays in the Bronze as Xander and Spike talk.

In a spooky bit of timing, Bohemian Like You by The Dandy Warhols is also playing in the Bronze. The band released the track well over a year ago but it's only just become a smash hit in the UK.
