This is one for the fans � and there's nothing wrong with that at all. Usually Farscape is more accessible than the average science fiction series because even as it toys with SF conceits and mocks them, its core is a very human and often very witty drama.
It's also usually able to let the notional hero Crichton take a back seat to the action when its really someone else's story. That's a very strong and confident aspect of the show: just try to imagine an original Star Trek episode in which Kirk wasn't the centre of attention or didn't end up being brought centre stage.
Still, this episode delved into Luxan society and values � much as later Trek laboriously detailed Klingon culture � and was probably the more impenetrable for casual viewers because of it.
It was very nice, though, how our certainty that Nilaam was conning D'Argo appeared to be proved true when she regained her youth and yet were swiftly shown that it was much more complicated than that.
