Teleplay by Peter Neale
Directed by Andrew Prowse

REVIEW
Marred only by an embarrassing explanatory scene toward the end, this was an exciting race of a plot which ultimately proved to be Zhaan's big story.

It's good to see her in action for while it's been Chiana's seesaw between docile and interestingly criminal that has been the most marked, Zhaan has also been underused for some time. That will change again, though, when Dream a Little Dream is aired soon.

As for this week's adventure, it marks one of the few times Farscape has brought back a villain. It was a better story than Maldis's only previous appearance (That Old Black Magic). For a series that's supposed to be about Crais chasing Crichton, it's actually created several good baddies for individual episodes so it's a shame when they dont return.

More subtly, this episode also built on last week's tale by having Aeryn kill Kyvan without a moment's thought. It worked, it was a surprise even though we knew Kyvan was Maldis but it was the better for we now know Aeryn as a cold-blooded murderer.

Yet we did know that Kyvan was Maldis, in one form or another. We got that the picture was his revenge, we understood he was trying to knock off the crew to get to Zhaan. So we didn't need the terrible scene with Chiana telling Rygel what had happened. Her line saying that Rygel (and by implication us), should forget the plot and just enjoy the happy ending was aggravating.

back to ploton to did you notice?
