RealMedia: Kermit's 1976

Did you know in 1976:

Water was rationed as Britain sweltered through the hottest summer in 200 years.

The Wurzels gave us the key to their brand new combine harvester and Gary Glitter left The Glitter Band.

Concorde came into service, offering Englands busy super-rich a quick transatlantic route to the New York shops.

Casio brought out a calculator that worked out your biorhythms, but Apple went one better, bringing out the first real home computer - Apple 1, a snip at $666. The more well-known Apple II was released the following year.

A frog, a pig, and a bear hosted a variety show which attracted a host of celebrity guests. "The Muppet Show" soon became a Friday night must-see for adults and kids alike.

Fun fur became a popular alternative to the real thing. It looked almost as good and reduced the wearers chances of being showered with blood or paint by animal rights activists.

A serious rival to anarchic Saturday show "TISWAS" finally arrived in the shape of Noel Edmonds and "The Multi-Coloured Swap Shop". It was intended to run for six weeks, but lasted six years.
