Metro, the free London paper which recently spoilt the Buffy season 7 finale, has tried to redress the balance with a full-page tribute to the show.
The tribute has been published to coincide with Sky One's screening of the show's finale tonight at 8pm, and makes for entertaining reading.
"Admitting you're addicted to Buffy the Vampire Slayer is like admitting an addiction to picking your toenails," writes Bel Jacobs, "embarrassing and slightly self-indulgent." (Or, in our case, impossible. We use scissors.)
The article also quotes Times art critic and Buffy fan Brian Appleyard, who says, "The occult in Buffy is a brilliantly sustained metaphor that embraces the multiple social and sexual crises of the teenage years." Quite.
Adam Hodgekins, senior lecturer in film and media studies at the University of Westminster also gives his tuppence worth:
"Our culture is becoming increasingly younger... Maybe watching Buffy is a denial of growing up."
The last ever episode is on Sky One tonight at 8pm, and is followed by the documentary Television with a Bite at 9pm.
