The Simpsons | Episode Guide | Season Four
So It's Come to This: A Simpsons Clip Show

Will a succession of clips raise Homer from coma?

Episode 9F17
Written by Jon Vitti
Directed by Carlos Baeza
Also starring: Maggie Roswell

Premise: A can of beer shook up by Bart as an April Fool's joke sends Homer into a coma. Perhaps clips from previous episodes might jog his slumbering consciousness.

Features: The Flanders, Captain McCallister, Chief Wiggum, Lou and Eddie, Dr Hibbert, Barney, Moe, Grampa, Dr Nick, Dr John Frink.

Couch: The Simpsons rush in, sit down - but their heads are on the wrong bodies.

And introducing: Bumblebee Man.

Homage: Barney's reaction to Homer's hospitalisation - pulling a water fountain off the wall - comes from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (Milos Forman, 1975). Dr Frink's suggestion to miniaturise a submarine and inject it into Homer's body mirrors the plot of Fantastic Voyage (Richard Fleischer, 1966).

Mmmmm: ...beer ...chocolate.

Notes: About as good as a clip show ever gets, and as the title suggests, refreshingly upfront about itself.
