Premise: Grampa falls in love with Marge's mother Jackie. But she's fallen in love with Mr Burns. And Bart's sent off for an animation cel from Itchy and Scratchy using Homer's credit card.
Features: Krusty, Sideshow Mel, Jackie Bouvier, Patty and Selma, Grampa, Nelson, Apu, Android's Dungeon Guy, Mr Burns, Smithers, Jasper, Rev. Lovejoy.
Couch: The Simpsons rush in - and collide and shatter.
Trivia:
- Jackie Bouvier's friends - the actress Frances Farmer, the poet Sylvia Plath, and Zelda Fitzgerald (wife of the author F. Scott Fitzgerald) all had terribly unhappy and disastrous lives.
Homage: The aborted wedding, the scene of Grampa and Jackie on the bus and even the use of Simon and Garfunkel's The Sound of Silence all come from The Graduate. Grampa performs Charlie Chaplin's potato dance from The Gold Rush (1925) to impress Jackie.
Hi, I'm Troy McClure, you may remember me from: Such films as The Boatjacking of Skyship '79 and Hydro, The Man with the Hydraulic Arms.
Songs: Play It Cool sung to Grampa by Homer, and The Sound of Grampa sung over the end credits.
Notes: Homer's nightmare vision of Bart, Lisa and Maggie as ordinary kids is a highlight of this especially crazy - surreal jokes, flashbacks and dream sequences whizz by at an alarming rate - instalment.
