The Simpsons | Episode Guide | Season Seven
Two Bad Neighbors

George and Barbara Bush move next door. They don't fit in.

Episode 3F09
Written by Ken Keeler
Directed by Wes Archer
Also starring: Pamela Hayden, Tress MacNeille, Maggie Roswell

Premise: The Simpsons have new neighbours - ex-President George Bush and his wife Barbara. But George and Bart don't get on.

Features: Grampa, the Flanders, Apu, Lenny and Carl, Chief Wiggum, Dr Hibbert, Milhouse, Principal Skinner.

Cameos: Everyone's at the rummage sale.

Couch: A big game hunter has bagged the Simpsons.

Notes for Brits: In 1990 George Bush had expressed his wish for the American family to be 'more like the Waltons than the Simpsons...' Six years passed before the Simpsons took their revenge.

Homage: The relationship between Bart and George Bush is a homage to the US sitcom Dennis the Menace, in which a young scamp terrorised an older neighbour. Grampa refers to Grover Cleveland, the only President to have served two non-consecutive terms in office.

Notes: Very strange, this episode takes The Simpsons into a whole new dimension of political satire. The lampooning of a single public figure is a startling move. Works much better for Americans, we're told.
