Homer wants to believe.
Episode 3G01
Written by Reid Harrison
Directed by Steven Dean Moore
Also starring: Tress MacNeille, Pamela Hayden
Special guest voices: Leonard Nimoy (as himself), Gillian Anderson (as Scully), David Duchovny (as Mulder)
Premise: Homer sees a little green alien floating through the forest. His wild claims of contact with 'greys' bring him to the attention of two FBI agents and a cigarette smoking man. However, not even they will believe him...
Features: Carl, Lenny, Mr Burns, Smithers, Jasper, Dr Hibbert, Hans Moleman, Barney, Moe, Grampa, Chief Wiggum, Milhouse, Kent Brockman, Otto, Apu, Ned Flanders, Rev. Lovejoy, Mr Largo, Martin Prince, Ralph Wiggum, Richard, Lewis, Jimbo Jones, Helen Lovejoy, Kmsty, Groundskeeper Willie, Ms Krabappel, Lunchlady Doris, Dr Nick.
Couch: The Simpsons arrive at the sofa via rocket backpacks.
Trivia:
- Marge reads Better Homes Than Yours magazine, while Lisa spends her time with Junior Skeptic.
- Moe has a breathalyser which starts with Tipsy, then Soused, Stinkin' and finally Boris Yeltsin.
Homage: The X-Files aside, the alien line-up which the FBI agents show Homer includes Gort from The Day the Earth Stood Still (Robert Wise, 1951), Marvin the Martian from Warner Bros Looney Tunes, Chewbacca from Star Wars, ALF from the TV series of the same name, and one of the Rigellians from the Hallowe'en specials.
Look out for: Mulder's ID badge photograph.
Notes: Despite the X-Files duo only cropping up for about ten minutes in the middle (and for the singalong at the end) a very clever episode, with the line-up one of the best visual gags in ages. Having Duchovny and Anderson is a definite plus, but Leonard Nimoy's part feels too brief after his previous cameo in Marge vs. the Monorail.
