The Simpsons | Episode Guide | Season Eight
Grade School Confidential

Love in the time of detention.

Episode 4F09
Written by Rachel Pulido
Directed by Susie Dietter
Also starring: Pamela Hayden, Tress MacNeille, Maggie Roswell, Russi Taylor
Special guest voice: Marcia Wallace (as Ms Krabappel)

Premise: After a disastrous party at the Princes', Edna Krabappel and Seymour Skinner find true love at last: with each other. But when Bart finds out, he becomes embroiled in their attempts to keep their clandestine affair secret.

Features: Mr Burns, Smithers, Carl, Lenny, Moe, Barney, Patty, Selma, Grampa, Jasper, Kent Brockman, Chief Wiggum, Mrs Wiggum, Agnes Skinner, Skinner, Miss Hoover, Groundskeeper Willie, Mr Largo, Otto, Lunchlady Doris, Superintendent Chalmers, Milhouse, Martin, Nelson, Jimbo, Dolph, Kearney, Sherri and Terri, Lewis, Richard, Wendell, Ralph, Janey, Allison, Rev. Lovejoy, Helen Lovejoy, Ned Flanders, Maude Flanders, Mrs van Houten, the Princes, Dr Hibbert, Ruth Powers, Krusty, Sideshow Mel, Bumblebee Man, Sanjay, Herman, Dr Nick Riviera.

Couch: Bubble versions of the family settle on the sofa and then pop.

Trivia:

  • Seymour Skinner is a 44-year-old virgin and Agnes collects pictures of cakes cut out from magazines.
  • She's been doing this since 1941.
  • Edna is used to dining alone: soup for one, salad for one, wine for three!

Look out for: The outrageous closing joke with the champagne cork popping and Edna's response. Possibly the show's most risque moment ever.

Notes: A delightful episode that finally brings to fruition one of the series' longest running gags: Edna and Seymour's mutual attraction. What is doubly refreshing is that it remains a constant in the subsequent episodes. Awww, bless 'em.
