More about Portuguese

The writing system
Portuguese is written with the Roman alphabet, with additional diacritics (or accents) to indicate features such as nasalized vowels (razo) and stress (e.g. esprito). As part of a modernization programme, the orthography was reformed in Portugal in 1916; small additional changes have been made since that time with the co-operation of the Portuguese Academy of Sciences and the Brazilian Academy of Letters.
