Five orphans with a spacecraft battle a lipsticked maniac from the Crab Nebula and his unlikely big flying robots. No one gets hurt.
Although Battle of the Planets came to Britain in 1978, it started out life in 1972 as a Japanese anime known as Gatchaman.
Bowdlerised by American distributors, Battle of the Planets mixed snippets of the original with new footage to tell the story of five transmuting orphans and their guardian robot, 7-Zark-7.
G-Force was made up of heroic Mark, grumpy Jason, pointless Tiny, challenged Keyop, and, of course, Princess (sigh).
Each week they would battle against some new and improbable robot menace unleashed by the evil Zoltar from Spectra in the "Crab Nebulae" (sic).
G-Force's could transform their spaceship into a fiery burning phoenix in moments of extreme peril, but only as a last resort (this happened roughly every week).
