Karate on the Spectrum

Computer Games

For those exercise-phobic mortals destined never to set foot in a Dojo, Kung Fu fighting became available in the 1980s, in the shape of the personal computer.

What began as a wobbly game of kick-and-punch between two grainy Spectrum characters evolved into martial arts masterpieces like Tekken and Streetfighter, complete with super-animation and hi-fi grunting.

Now the mystery of the double-cut, back flip satsuma punch is open to anyone prepared to spend the four hundred hours necessary to work out the ridiculously-difficult sequence of key presses required.
