Monkey

Monkey

The king of Kung Fu kitsch, Monkey wowed a generation of kids with his big staff and natty gold headband.

Throughout the Eighties, boys would stand in school playgrounds blowing through their fingers to try and summon up a flying pink cloud (even those who hadn't yet experimented with illicit drugs).

Monkey was an immortal who had angered the gods and - to atone - had to protect a young holy man travelling to India to find a set of sacred scrolls.

Few young viewers were impressed with the concept of a spiritual journey, but there was lots of fighting with rakes and sticks, so that was okay.
