Hong Kong Phooey
That no-one in the cartoon realised the humble janitor was a pyjama-wearing
superhero is one mystery. That creators Hanna Barbera got away with
trivialising a whole culture without being murdered is quite another.
Sporting a bathrobe and Zorro mask, cartoon canine Phooey cracked
crime and beat up the bad guys armed with little else than moggie
sidekick Spot and the 'Little Hong Kong Book of Kung Fu'.
Phooey became so popular he even launched his own lunchbox, and
the actor who voiced him went on to star in Hollywood blockbusters
including The Shining and Cocoon.
Sadly, Captain Caveman wasnt so lucky.
