RealMedia: BBC reports retirement of Queen's horse

Horses

The Royal Family own dozens of horses which are used for radically different purposes. Some stately mares are used only during ceremonies, others are ridden by the Royals themselves, and then there are the powerful royal racehorses.

Turf accountants may jest that perhaps someone should check which horsebox contains which beast before setting off from the paddock, but it's hard to argue with the form of the Queen Mother's stable. Her horses won over 400 races during her lifetime.

HM The Queen is an avid horserider who used to ride during the Trooping The Colour display. And the most well known horsewoman is Princess Anne. She competed at the 1976 Olympic Games and was a silver medal winner at the European Championships in Germany.

Giddy up!
