Big Skirts and Big Hair

Long, layered hair was still popular for both men and women, with blow drying adding lift. The "shag" and the "gypsy" were popular and the Afro was growing ever more bulbous.

Also sprouting uncontrollably were sideburns, aided and abetted by Slade frontman Noddy Holders muttons.

Hippy fashions were on the wane, but puffy angel-sleeved blouses were still to be found atop big, big skirts, and many an evening dress could be mistaken for a barrage balloon.
