West of Midnight
Kingdom Hospital Mrs. Druse prompts a dying patient to help her contact Mary's ghost.

Written by: Stephen King
Directed by: Craig Baxley

As late night turns to early morning in Castle Rock, Maine, nurse Emma Warburton is watching over the elderly Mr. Sugarly as he passes away. However, as Nurse Emma is lifting a few hundred dollars from his wallet before calling to report his death, Mr. Sugarly springs to life. And when the fright gives Emma a heart attack, the crotchety old man summons an ambulance to take her to the hospital instead.

Meanwhile, as Stegman offers to pay for information regarding the identity of the vandals who defaced his car, Mrs. Druse asks a dying Lenny Stillmach for help in contacting Mary's ghost.

Despite the fact that she's dead, at the ER, Dr. Louis Traff does everything possible to revive Emma. Defending his extraordinary effort, Traff tells Hook that Emma, who was caught stealing painkillers from the hospital to feed her addiction twenty-five years ago, was once his wife and is Elmer's mother. With both Peter Rickman and Rolf Pedersen sleeping soundly in the Kingdom's "Presidential Suite," Mrs. Druse's "conversation" with the late Lenny Stillmach reveals that there's a patient in the ICU who knows the ghostly girl's name.

Following a visit from the ghost of the admirer who sent him the poison as part of their suicide pact, Rolf is told by Paul to kill an old woman who is coming to see Peter Rickman. But when Mrs. Druse arrives in the ICU, Hook steps in to warn of what will happen if Stegman catches her. As Elmer continues his pursuit of the sleep lab's Lona Massingale, his dad delivers the sad news about Emma's death. And with Hook telling Brick about the ghosts who haunt the Kingdom, Stegman returns to the hospital seeking revenge as Mary calls out for help from inside the elevator shaft.

Girl Trivia

Rickman's storyline is closely based on Stephen King's near-death experience in 1999.
