Homer lands up in a whole raft of trouble.
Episode 1F06
Written by Dan McGrath
Directed by Jeffrey Lynch
Also starring: Pamela Hayden, Maggie Roswell, Russi Taylor
Special guest voices: Marcia Wallace (as Ms Krabappel), Ernest Borgnine (as himself)
Premise: After getting tanked up on a Squishee, Bart discovers that he joined the Scouts whilst under the influence of the sugar. Homer joins him, Ned and Todd Flanders for a weekend rafting expedition.
Features: Martin Prince, Jimbo Jones, Dolph, Kearney, Milhouse, Apu, Snake, Barney, Principal Skinner, Nelson, Ms Krabappel, Jasper, Ned Flanders, Todd Flanders, Moe, Han Moleman, Dr Hibbert, Captain McCallister, Chief Wiggum,
Patty, Selma, Lou, Eddie, Krusty.
Couch: The family's eyes rush in - followed by their bodies.
Homage: In Homer's dream, he's singing Sugar Sugar, a 1969 hit for cartoon pop group The Archies. Hans Moleman's cry of 'This is a knife' comes from Crocodile Dundee (Peter Faiman, 1986).
Itchy and Scratchy in: Aaaahhhhh Wilderness.
Mmmmm: ...pressed peanut sweepings ...pretty goo ... apple ...hamburgers.
Look out for: One of the best jokes of the series - the dolphins warbling 'You're going to die' to trapped Homer and company.
Notes: A terrific episode, with Homer so stupid it isn't true, yet still saving the day. Seeing Ned Flanders get it wrong (and slapped about for the trouble) is great but show-stealer is a toss-up between Ernest Borgnine's great self-deprecating role, the ironic seagull and the dolphins.
